2020-11-17 | media: cx231xx: Use snd_card_free_when_closed() instead of snd_card_free(). | Zebediah Figura
cx231xx_close_extension and hence cx231xx_audio_fini() are called with the cx231xx device lock held, but snd_cx231xx_pcm_close() also grabs that mutex when closing the file on behalf of arecord. There seems to be no reason to wait for sound card resources to be released, so let the release be asynchronous. Tested with a Hauppauge 955Q (2040:b123) and Linux 5.9.6; the hang described in the bug no longer occurs and disconnecting the device correctly terminates arecord with ENODEV. 2019-12-13 | media: cs231xx: Clean up ALSA PCM API usages | Takashi Iwai
With the recent change in ALSA PCM core, the whole open-coded vmalloc buffer handling in this driver can be dropped by replacing with the managed buffer allocation. Also, snd_cx231xx_hw_capture_free() is dropped since the check of stream_started flag makes no sense; hw_free callback is guaranteed to be called after the stream gets stopped. 2018-08-02 | media: cx231xx: use irqsave() in USB's complete callback | Sebastian Andrzej Siewior
The USB completion callback does not disable interrupts while acquiring the lock. We want to remove the local_irq_disable() invocation from __usb_hcd_giveback_urb() and therefore it is required for the callback handler to disable the interrupts while acquiring the lock. The callback may be invoked either in IRQ or BH context depending on the USB host controller. Use the _irqsave() variant of the locking primitives. 2018-06-12 | treewide: kmalloc() -> kmalloc_array() | Kees Cook
The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own implementation of kmalloc(). The Coccinelle script used for this was: // Fix redundant parens around sizeof(). @@ type TYPE; expression THING, E; @@ ( kmalloc( - (sizeof(TYPE)) * E + sizeof(TYPE) * E , ...) | kmalloc( - (sizeof(THING)) * E + sizeof(THING) * E , ...) ) // Drop single-byte sizes and redundant parens. @@ expression COUNT; Unfortunately, on devices that have multiple interfaces, udev->dev points to the parent device (usb) instead of the cx231xx specific one. There are lots of debug printks printed with pr_info. Also, the printk's data are not too coherent: - there are duplicated driver name at the print format; - function name format string differs from function to function; - long strings broken into multiple lines; - some printks just produce ugly reports, being almost useless as-is. Do a cleanup on that. Still, there are much to be done in order to do a better printk job on this driver, but, at least it will now be a way less verbose, if debug printks are disabled, and some logs might actually be useful.
